Kevin Kleinpeter Biography
Kevin P. Kleinpeter joins the Babcock Law Firm after three years of service to the local business and political community as Vice President of Governmental Affairs for the Baton Rouge Area Chamber of Commerce. He is a Baton Rouge native and a proud member of the Kleinpeter Dairy family that has lived and farmed in south Louisiana since the late seventeen hundreds.
Mr. Kleinpeter is a graduate of Catholic High School and earned his B.A. in Political Science at Louisiana State University. Mr. Kleinpeter received is J.D. from South Texas College of Law in downtown Houston, Texas in May of 2000.
Mr. Kleinpeter’s practice is made up exclusively of litigation and appeals of commercial, insurance, and injury matters. Mr. Kleinpeter maintains a full trial docket in courts from Shreveport to Slidell and Lake Providence to Lake Charles and nearly everywhere in between. He is a graduate of the National Institute for Trial Advocacy (NITA) and comfortable trying cases of all sizes.
Mr. Kleinpeter came to Babcock Law Firm after lobbying on behalf of the Baton Rouge Area Chamber on a wide variety of business issues at local and state level. His experience ranges from working with a broad coalition of business leaders to amend River Pilot Fees to successfully pushing for an innovative video game tax incentive to lure out of state businesses seeking economic development opportunities in Louisiana.
Mr. Kleinpeter regularly attended and testified on business issues at City Halls during his three years with the Chamber. He has worked with mayors, parish presidents, city councils, police juries, planning commissions, public works departments, trade associations, and various other task forces and commissions.
Kleinpeter spearheaded and managed a complex environmental suit, still pending, against federal agencies during his last two years with the Chamber of Commerce. This litigation was the impetus of preventing East Baton Rouge Parish and several surrounding parishes from mandated use of Reformulated Gasoline (RFG). At the time of the suits, studies proved RFG was more expensive with little or no benefits to the environment, health or human welfare.
Before joining the Babcock Team, Mr. Kleinpeter was a contract lobbyist representing innovative and historical commercial development projects and important land owner’s rights initiatives. He also joined a broad and diverse coalition of trade associations, private businesses, and independent contractors that began debating the future of the telecommunications industry in the state.
